Teenage Rehab - Insight Therapy

The insight therapy is one of the most employed treatment therapies in teenage rehab centers.

The insight therapy focuses on the individual teen, encouraging him/her to break away from old negative habits. The therapy encourages a teen to look inwardly and assess his/her own emotions, behavior and motivations. A teen is encouraged to take a critical look at his/her own behavior and tell whether it is positive or negative. The therapy aims to create self-awareness and make a teen be able to see the difference between him/herself and those who do not do drugs. The therapy in general aims to make a teen be able to talk to him/herself, and be able to remove the negatives in his/her life and substitute the same with positives.

At teenage, one is at a point that he/she discovers and understands him/herself. It is at this stage that one discovers his/her identity and insight therapy intends to capitalize on this to open up an addicted teen's life to make him/her be aware that drugs and alcohol are not the only things in life. The therapy aims to inculcate a sense of self-control, judgment, emotional and organizational development in the teens. By developing these qualities, a teen eventually is able to make the right choices and discard all the negatives in his/her life, including the use and misuse of substances.

The insight therapy does not only focus on the individual. The therapy aims to make a teen be able to figure out what is happening in his/her family. A teen is able to assess his/her family communication patterns. If there is lack of communication in the family, is he/her part of the lack of it? How does he/she communicate with parents, siblings and other family members? Such are the questions an addicted teen faces. By answering such questions, a teen is expected to make the necessary amends and be more open with other family members.

While most teenage rehab treatment therapies focus on particular areas, the insight therapy focuses on the overall well-being of a teen. A teen who has undergone the therapy is able to make good positive choices even when faced presented with chances to relapse. Unlike other therapies that benefit the affected teens only, the insight therapy benefits the whole family as each family member is made to understand his/her place in the family and what role he/she has to play within the family set up. This way, each family member is able to appreciate other family members, understanding each member's weaknesses and strengths.

An effective teenage drug treatment therapy should not only focus on addressing the substance abuse problem. It should show a teen ways of living positively by equipping such a teen with the capability to make good choice and judgment when faced with challenges.

Amongst all the available teenage rehab treatment therapies, those that shift teens' internal belief systems have been found to set a firm foundation for long-term change and positive living. The insight therapy creates this foundation and when used in combination with other therapies, an effective treatment is bound to be achieved.
